Thus I have heard, at one time the Buddha dwelt at Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Forlorn, together with a gathering of Great Bhikshus,
Thiên nhị bách ngũ thập nhân câu, giai thị đại A La Hán, chúng sở tri thức:
Twelve-hundred fifty in all, all Great Arhats well-known to the assembly:
Trưởng Lão Xá Lợi Phất, Ma Ha Mục Kiền Liên, Ma Ha Ca Diếp, Ma Ha Ca Chiên Diên, Ma Ha Câu Hy La,
Elders Shariputra, Mahamaudgalyayana, Mahakasyapa, Mahakatyayana, Mahakausthila,
Ly Bà Đa, Châu Lợi Bàn Đà Già, Nan Đà, A Nan Đà, La Hầu La, Kiều Phạm Ba Đề, Tân Đầu Lô Phả La Đọa,
Revata, Suddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ananda, Rahula, Gavampati, Pindola-Bharadvaja,
Ca Lưu Đà Di, Ma Ha Kiếp Tân Na, Bạc Câu La, A Nậu Lâu Đà, như thị đẳng chư đại đệ tử,
Kalodayin, Mahakaphina, Vakkula, Aniruddha, and others such as these, all Great Disciples,
Tinh chư Bồ Tát Ma ha Tát: Văn Thù Sư Lợi Pháp Vương Tử, A Dật Ða Bồ Tát, Càn Ðà Ha Ðề Bồ Tát,
Together with all the Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas: Manjushri, Prince of Dharma, Ajita Bodhisattva, Gandhastin Bodhisattva,
Thường Tinh Tấn Bồ Tát, dữ như thị đẳng chư Ðại Bồ Tát, cập Thích Ðề Hoàn nhân đẳng, vô lượng chư thiên, đại chúng câu.
Nityodukta Bodhisattva, and others such as these, all Great Bodhisattvas, and together with Shakra, Chief among Gods, and the numberless great multitudes from all the heavens.
3 Nhĩ thời Phật cáo Trưởng lão Xá Lợi Phất: Tùng thị Tây phương quá thập vạn ức Phật độ, hữu thế giới danh viết Cực lạc.
At that time, the Buddhas told the Elder Shariputra: From here, passing through hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhalands to the West there is a world called Utmost Happiness.
4 Kỳ độ hữu Phật, hiệu A Di Đà, kim hiện tại thuyết Pháp. Xá Lợi Phất, bỉ độ hà cố danh vi Cực Lạc?
In this land, a Buddha called Amitabha right now teaches the Dharma. Shariputra, why is this land called Utmost Happiness?
Kỳ quốc chúng sanh, vô hữu chúng khổ, đản thọ chư lạc, cố danh Cực lạc.
All living beings of this country never suffer, but enjoy every bliss. Therefore it is called Utmost Happiness.
5 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, Cực lạc quốc độ, thất trùng lan thuẫn, thất trùng la võng, thất trùng hàng thọ,
Moreover, Shariputra, this land of Utmost Happiness is completely surrounded by seven tiers of railings, seven layers of netting, and seven rows of trees,
Giai thị tứ bảo châu táp vi nhiễu, thị cố bỉ quốc danh vi Cực Lạc.
All formed from the four treasures, and for this reason called Utmost Happiness.
6 Hựu Xá Lợi Phất, Cực lạc quốc độ hữu thất bảo trì, bát công đức thủy, sung mãn kỳ trung, trì để thuần dĩ kim sa bố địa.
Moreover, Shariputra, in the land of Utmost Happiness are pools of the seven jewels, filled with the waters of eight meritorious qualities; the bottom of each pool is pure, covered with golden sand.
Tứ biên giai đạo, kim, ngân, lưu ly, pha lê hợp thành, thượng hữu lâu các, diệc dĩ kim, ngân, lưu ly, pha lê, xa cừ, xích châu, mã não, nhi nghiêm sức chi.
On the four sides climb stairs of gold, silver, lapus lazuli, crystal, mother-of pearl, rubies, and carnelian.
Trì trung liên hoa, đại như xa luân, thanh sắc thanh quang, hoàng sắc hoàng quang, xích sắc xích quang, bạch sắc bạch quang, vi diệu hương khiết.
In the pools bloom lotuses as large as carriage wheels with colors of green light, yellow light, red light, and white light, subtle, rare, fragrant, and pure.
Xá Lợi Phất, Cực Lạc quốc độ, thành tựu như thị công đức trang nghiêm.
Shariputra, the Land of Utmost Happiness is crowned in splendor and virtues such as these.
